A professional ice hockey team, the Winnipeg Jets are proudly based in Winnipeg, Canada. As part of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Central Division and Western Conference, this powerful organization is owned by True North Sports & Entertainment. It plays its games at the iconic Canada Life Centre arena. The Jets were founded as the Atlanta Thrashers on June 25th, 1997, before starting their NHL career for the 1999-2000 season – following in the footsteps of Winnipeg’s original WHA/NHL franchise that moved to Phoenix, Arizona due to financial difficulties after 1995-96 season.
