The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos have agreed on the trade of Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson. According to Tom Pelissero from the NFL Network, the two teams have agreed on a deal in principle, and the Broncos will give up a lot of draft picks and players to make it happen.

Broncos Give Up Five Draft Picks and Three Players

Sources close to the teams say that Seattle will send two first-round and two second-round picks, as well as one fifth-rounder. Broncos’ quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant and defensive tackle Shelby Harris will go the opposite direction too.

Teams are now waiting for all players involved to pass their medicals and Wilson to waive the no-trade clause in his contract. If that happens after the new league year begins, the deal will go ahead immediately. If things go smoother, and everything is concluded before March 16, the Denver Broncos will have to wait for the new league year to begin to get their quarterback.

Wilson is the Missing Piece in the Broncos’ Offensive Puzzle

The Broncos have quite the offensive lineup, and with Wilson coming in, they suddenly become a much stronger contender for the tightly contested AFC West.

The Denver-based side boasts accomplished wide receivers such as Courtland SuttonJerry JeudyTim Patrick, and K.J. Hamler. The Broncos also have talented running back Javonte Williams and tight end Albert Okwuegbunam to complete an offensive lineup that can go toe to toe with the best teams in the league.

They were only a quarterback short of a squad that would be ready for the playoff, but now have that missing piece of the puzzle. Russell Wilson is a nine-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl-winning quarterback that’s not just a massive coup for the Broncos but also puts them on a level footing with the best in AFC West.

What’s Next for the Seahawks?

But where does this trade leave the Seahawks? It was always clear that they didn’t have any plans to trade Wilson before the Broncos made their pitch. However, Denver’s offer was too good to turn down.

That means they now have to plan for the season ahead without their star quarterback. Drew Lock will be an option in the quarterback position but there’s no comparing the soon-to-be Seahawks quarterback with the one leaving for the Broncos.
