Since 1926, the Detroit Red Wings have been a mainstay in the NHL as one of its six original teams. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan and competing in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division, this hockey team began as the Cougars before changing their name to Falcons for two seasons. Finally settling on ‘Red Wings’ in 1932 – an ode to their city’s long-standing reputation as ‘the motor city’ – they remain amongst some of professional ice hockey’s most formidable foes today.
